This new-build, contemporary kitchen in Padstow, Cornwall, marks our third project with this client, and returning clients always bring something special.
As a designer, there’s a huge advantage in already understanding how someone lives, cooks, and entertains. It makes the process more seamless, less stressful — and more enjoyable — allowing us to focus even more on the finer details: materials, layout and overall style.
In this case, the client wanted generous worktop space for cooking and prep, while also creating a cosy, accessible dining area and a separate space for casual bar stool seating. A U-shaped layout with a peninsula gave us just that — naturally dividing the zones and offering the perfect bar seating spot, similar to what an island would provide.
We collaborated with Justin from Gaff to design the built-in dining area, blending kitchen materials with soft velvet upholstery for a more relaxed, layered feel.
A breakfast cupboard with Hawa slide-away doors keeps circulation free-flowing in a busy part of the kitchen. Groove detailing on the wall units and back panel adds texture, with vertical lines echoed in the reeded glass of the tall built-in drinks cupboard.
Designer’s note:
I’ve worked closely with this client for over three years — from the first architectural drawings to final installation. We’ve laughed, cried, shared countless conversations, and always found common ground. The result is a kitchen that feels genuinely personal: beautifully practical and truly designed for family life.
