As part of a new extension in a Cornish townhouse, this contemporary, handless kitchen flows around a central Island unit. The Island features a Platino Sensa quartzite worktop with a gently figured grain. A vented Miele induction hob is inset into this, which helps maintain the clutter-free large preparation area. As part of the Island’s design, a mixture of large sub-divided drawers provide storage for cutlery, utensils, pots and pans. The Island also features lit mirrored plinths, which give the Island a floating effect and reflect the polished Porcelain flooring.

Our client chose Basalt 221 Blue from Little Greene for the furniture – a rich blue which works well in a large room. Another preparation area behind the central Island unit incorporates an integrated, stainless steel Corian sink and Quooker tap. The worktops in this area are Sparkling White Corian and wrapped at one end. The splashback is textured mirrored glass, which has a variety of subtle tones and reflects the colours of the garden. Above is a full-length floating shelf with recessed mood lighting.

To the right is a bank of tall cupboards with a range of inset Miele appliances. As well as providing plenty of storage space, the end cabinet incorporates a compact oak pantry with door-mounted spice racks. We also created a mini-bar area in a natural alcove with glazed shelving and a double-fronted drinks cabinet.
