Shoreside Contemporary

Project Year: 2020
Location: Downderry, Cornwall
Summary:

The house itself is traditional in look with all the traditional features kept intact, but the eclectic mix of items within the house meant we could play with a modern look in the kitchen. The footprint of the kitchen layout did not really change from the original, but with a clever play of storage to remove un-used clutter of the tops we managed to have so much workable worktop space.

Clever storage also meant everything was accessible, like a spice cupboard at the end of the peninsular unit. I also had to design a sideboard to hold drinks, CDs, books, and have a retro feel. The entire unit was white apart from the funky yellow doors (colour matched Corian Imperial Yellow), which gave it the wow factor. Grooves in the top meant we could hide any cables from speakers and lamps plugged into the sockets above.

A lot of time was spent on every detail of the design and together with the client’s input, we pulled it off. – Lloyd Williams, Senior Designer (Treyone Kingsbridge, Devon)
