Lannacombe Bay Contemporary
Our clients in Devon approached us with a wish to drag their much-loved property into the 21st century, creating an open plan kitchen space that led out to an enclosed, newly landscaped terrace. They longed to have a cooking environment that seamlessly flowed from one area to the next, omitting any unnecessary walls and doorways…enticing some much needed natural light into the rear of the property.
As they are both keen cooks, they wished to have two zones where they could both enjoy preparing home cooked dishes, without working on top of each other. Clever use of storage was imperative, as the kitchen they inherited did not fulfill their requirements. They were open to any suggestions that helped create better flow and provide a more sociable space to enjoy being in. A wish list of appliances was created by the client, but they wanted to explore new offerings that had entered the market. The narrow second utility room could form part of the kitchen, but they didn’t know how to make the best use of this.
The smoked mirror cladding in the narrow part of the kitchen helped create the illusion of a bigger space and the pocket doors (opposite) provided a third prep area that could be closed off when not in use.
The chosen floor finish was the starting point for determining a suitable colour scheme. Internal cabinetry finishes were chosen to tie in with this. The light Silestone ‘Yukon’ leather worktops provided a beautiful contrast to the bold Farrow & Ball ‘Railings’ furniture. In order to prevent everything from feeling too ‘heavy’, more imposing elements were painted in Farrow & Ball ‘Cornforth White’, nestling and blending into pocket walls that were finished in the same colour.
The result is a sociable, calming, de-cluttered environment that the clients thoroughly enjoy. – Stewart MacPherson, Senior Designer (Treyone Kingsbridge, Devon)

“The designer from Treyone was the only one who came up with something innovative and different. We talked about how we cooked and use the kitchen. Good following up and helpful in discussing colours and patient with many changes prior to order. The installer was fantastic, excellent craftsmen and very considerate and pleasant” – Lannacombe Bay, Devon
